Role of Heart in Body
The heart is one of the most important parts of the body. The main function of the heart is to pump blood to all parts of the body. The human heart is about the size of an adult fist. The heart is like an engine that helps our body to function. Everything in the body like cells, tissue, organs and systems depends on the heart. It is because of the heart that our body works properly because it is maintained properly.
The Structure of Heart
Let’s talk about its structure, its size is about a human fist. It is divided into four chambers:
- Right atrium
- Right ventricle
- Left atrium
- Left ventricle
The heart basically consists of four chambers. They are left atria and left ventricle, right atria and right ventricle. The deoxygenated blood from the body through superior vena cava and inferior vena cava enters the right atrium. From the upper parts of the body, the blood is carried by superior vena cava, and from the lower part of the body, blood is carried by inferior vena cava to the right atrium.
Flow of Blood Through These Chambers
The blood from the right atrium enters into the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve. The deoxygenated blood now enters into lungs through pulmonary arteries for oxygenation. The oxygenated blood now enters into the left atria through pulmonary veins. From the left atria, the blood enters into the left ventricle through a bicuspid valve. From the left ventricle, the blood enters into the aortic valves and from this valve, it enters into the aorta and from the aorta, it is distributed throughout the body.
Types of Blood Vessels
There are three types of blood vessels:
- Arteries – carry blood away from the heart.
- Capillaries – carry most red blood cells.
- Veins – carry blood towards the heart.
Problem Associated with Heart
Atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis is the deposition of cholesterol in arteries due to which there is narrowing of walls of arteries. This condition is known as atherosclerosis.
Arteriosclerosis
When cholesterol deposits on the wall of arteries and later fibers are attached on it, then it becomes a hard substance. Such a condition is called arteriosclerosis. When these problems develop it becomes risky for a person and it may lead to death.
Protection from Heart Problem
Doing regular exercise may reduce the risk of heart disease. Eating healthy food, avoiding junk food, and avoiding oily food becomes helpful to reduce heart disease.

The heart is a powerhouse in our body. It works nonstop to keep us alive because it maintains our system. It is all in one, meaning it has many features like pumping blood to the body, supplying oxygen and nutrients to all parts, maintaining blood pressure, and helping every system in our body.
We should take care of our heart by eating a healthy diet, doing regular exercise not only for heart disease but also full body physical exercise, reducing stress to maintain your mental health, and avoiding bad habits like drinking alcohol and smoking. This can lead you to severe health issues.
