Acne stress and solutions: Why your face isn’t your enemy

(Even when it feels like it is!)

Let’s define acne , as what actually acne is?

Acne is tiny, annoying, emotionally powerful creatures that somehow ruin your mood faster than a low battery warning. One small pimple and suddenly you are cancelling your plans, avoiding cameras, and zooming into the mirror like you are investigating a crime scene.

But here is the truth: acne is normal, common and way less dramatic than the stress it creates.

The real villain is stress itself , because it causes breakouts , which then causes more stress and the cycle continues like a never ending Netflix series.

Let’s break it into cycles.

Why acne causes so much stress:

Acne causes so much stress because of the following reasons.

Society treats skin like a report card:

Society treats clear skin as a perfect and beautiful one which means clear skin is equal to “you are doing good.”
And unfortunately if you get a breakout then it means “ you messed up.”
Acne is a skin condition not a task flaw.

Confidence crashes instantly:

Nothing ruins a beautiful outfit like a surprising pimple appears on your face like it has paid rent for staying on your face.

Social media filters don’t help:

Look at social media, everyone looks airbrushed online. And you look like real and real means unfair.

Stress triggers hormones and hormones triggers acne:

Your brain gives you a message that “ we are stressed “ and if your skin is already bearing a lot of pimples then another one pops up on your face and your face says “ no more.” A breakout appears like a loyal puppy.

Type of Acne stress on people faces:

Mirror anxiety:

Spend 10 minutes staring at your pimples and their pores. They tell you about your stress and anxiety.

Event panic:

A breakout always appears one day before the wedding, date or exam. It always happens before any important event and flops the event.

Overthinking products:

After that we rush to the market and find products to cure it and believe me it makes it look worse. And if you are doing makeup on an event you have to be picky and think that will make my acne burn, red or it will suit or not.

The “why me” question:

We always wonder why it is happening to me. You will also ask about the acne on your face as I do, but the answer is because it’s your skin, you are taking stress and you have periods.

Solutions:

Let’s stop crying over zits and start fixing them gently, realistically and without a 20 step routine.

Keep it simple, A 3 step skin care:

When you use too many products then it makes your skin confused.
So in morning:

  • Gentle face wash
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunscreen

Night:

  • Gentle wash
  • Light moisturizer

That it is , believe it or not your skin loves simplicity.

Reduce stress to reduce acne:

Because stress is often the main culprit.
Try:

  • silent walks
  • yoga stretches
  • Breathing exercises
  • Screen breaks
  • Talking to someone
  • Doing something creative

Fix your lifestyle:

Acne isn’t just deep in the skin.
So drink a lot of water , change your pillow in case, reduce oily foods, don’t touch your face, sleep properly and manage stress.

Don’t pop pimples:

I know , I know the satisfaction is real but popping causes more burst outs and more pimples.

See a dermatologist when needed:

If the acne is painful then see a dermatologist,
If the acne is more painful, leaves a scar ,keeps coming frequently, and affects your mental health.
A dermatologist can help you with medicines, creams and treatments that actually work.
That may work for you and you won’t need to work with the pimple alone.

Final thought:

Acne doesn’t define your beauty’ Your skin is not supposed to be glass, and you think you are not a filtered image. You are a human and humans have textures , pores and sometimes pimples and that’s perfectly okay.
